Bird #1 - FREE
I've been thinking all month about Elm Street Quilts' ' One Word 2016' , having picked the word 'Free' early on. Free to make mistakes and NOT fret about them. Free to start projects and NOT finish them. Free to NOT 'buy' anymore BOMs/QALs, information books that are nothing but rehashed thoughts and ideas that can be easily found with a google search and patterns that are crap.
Bird #2 - Plus Banner Block
I first designed a block using butterflies and a simple checkerboard, but with one thing and another didn't get the block done, so the second bird is the 'Plus Banner Block' that Quilting Jet Girl shared on her blog on the first of the month. My version isn't perfect, I'm still struggling with my 1/4", but I was happy to have a use for my result :)
Bird #3 - Mighty Lucky Quilting Club - January Challenge - Sewing with Bias Tape
I wasn't going to do the challenge but when I saw some of the results of some of the girls in Maritime Modern Quilt Guild I had to give it a go. I cheated and bought some ready made bias tape, which I think is too stiff to work with, so my original plan to write the word FREE out with the bias tape quickly got changed to adding bias tape almost curvy lines to the Plus Banner Block. But, challenge done, wimpy as it may be :)
The 'mini' is 14 1/4" x 14 1/2", I used my stash for the fabrics, my 1/4" seams suck so lots of pieces don't match up. My machine was giving me some major stitch grief so the quilting is horrible, not that my quilting is ever spot one ;) The red and white bias tape is store bought, not made following the wonderful instructions in the challenge and I didn't have any of the fancy tape so it was 'here goes nothing' :) The lettering is done with silver glitter fabric paint. Have you ever worked with fabric paint??? I hadn't before this and it's doubtful I'll do much in the future :) But I'm FREE to not stress over the small imperfections. FREE to love it :)
|Oops... I left a pin in the underside when adding the binding and sewed through it. LOL|
